Service Line Inventory
West Valley Water District (WVWD) is committed to safeguarding its community water system from harmful contaminants and works with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to protect your water. One way we're doing this is by complying with EPA regulations that require public water systems to create a detailed inventory of lead service lines, included those that are the responsibility of the customer.
Service Line Inventory Map
WVWD is pleased to inform our customers that the District's water lines are lead-free. It is still possible that individual, privately-owned water lines and internal plumbing may contain lead, particularly if the home was built before 1986.
- Background
-
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established the Lead and Copper Rule in 1991 to reduce exposure to lead and copper in water. In 2023, the EPA proposed the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) intended to reduce public exposure to lead. Under the LCRI, water utility companies must assemble lead service line inventory for customer-owned service lines and produce an annual lead service line notification.
- Why is the EPA requiring this?
-
The EPA is proposing the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) to significantly reduce exposure to lead through drinking water. The proposed LCRI strengthens key elements of the rule in three main focus areas: replacing lead service lines, reducing complexity for public health protection, and increasing transparency and informing the public.

- Self-Inspection Reporting/ Service Line Inventory Survey
-
Under the LCRI, all public water systems, including the WVWD, are required to identify the pipe material of privately-owned water service lines. To comply with the regulations, WVWD is encouraging customers to inspect the water service lines that enter their residence or business and report those results through our Service Line Inventory Survey.
